The Dickens Code is primarily funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC): the UK’s largest provider of response-led and strategic funding, advanced skills training and career development across the whole range of arts and humanities. The AHRC is part of UK Research and Innovation.
We are also grateful for the following sources of support, which have enabled us to expand different aspects of the project:
- Being Human, which supported online and in-person decoding activities as part of the 2022 Festival of the Humanities.
- The Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies, University of Leicester, which provided seed-corn funding to develop a prototype neural network with colleagues in Informatics at the University of Leicester.
- The College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities, University of Leicester, which enabled us to capture the reach of the ‘Tavistock’ letter discovery.
